It will soon be Christmas and, before we know it, we will be into 2018. Here are a few orienteering related things to consider for your Christmas list and New Year resolutions:

Club Awards 2017

Well done to all four award winners announced at today's Club AGM.

The Chairman's Trophy (and Lifetime Award): Erik Peckett, in recognition of Erik's particularly significant contribution to the club over many years.

The Haytor Trophy: Tom Lillicrap, M70 British Champion 2017, for outstanding performance

The Epic Trophy: Ella Bowles, W55, Planner, Holne Moor 2016, and 3rd place, W55, Scottish 6 Days 2017, for going above and beyond.

The Tom Chesters Award: Tom Snow, M18, for an outstanding contribution by a junior member of the club. (This is a new award, presented for the first time in 2017.)

Photographs of Ella and Tom Snow will follow when their awards are presented personally on a future occasion.

Peter “Biggles” Flick

For details of funeral arrangements and thanksgiving service please see below.

Club members will be sad to hear that Peter Flick passed away this morning, 3rd May 2017, in the RD&E, Exeter. Through his hashing connections, Peter was known universally as "Biggles". He had been a long-standing member of the club and contributed whole-heartedly to tasks associated with numerous club events -and to the work of the club committee -for many years. Please see the tribute below, written by Roger Green.

Risk Assessments

The Club secretary () maintains a file of risk assessments from recent events so that future organisers may adapt the assessment for their needs. In addition, by making the assessments routinely available the club is demonstrating good, safe, practice. Some selected examples are given below for information.

Please note that the risk assessment should contain a clear link to the Club Missing Person Procedure - see Haldon June 2018 as an example.

Club Record Keeping

This document describes how DOC will maintain records of Event Risk Assessments, reportable Accidents and other Accidents and Incidents which require a first aid response.
