Club members will be sad to hear that Peter Flick passed away this morning, 3rd May 2017, in the RD&E, Exeter. Through his hashing connections, Peter was known universally as "Biggles". He had been a long-standing member of the club and contributed whole-heartedly to tasks associated with numerous club events -and to the work of the club committee -for many years. Please see the tribute below, written by Roger Green.
Ruth Chesters has a strong list of Devon entries for the Compass Sport Cup match on 12th March -but if you would like to take part please let Ruth know, if at all possible, by the 19th February, with the details below!
Further information on dates for submission of names to Ruth for the Regional Heat of the Compass Sport Cup 2017, the JK and the British Champs relays have been added below:
At Devon's Committee meeting on 12.10.16 the club agreed to adopt the British Orienteering 2016 policy on "Safeguarding, Image Taking and the Use of Images". For a copy of the policy see below.
If, for any reason, as a parent or carer of a junior member of the club you do not want your child being photographed at club events, and therefore potentially appearing on Devon’s website or Facebook page, please inform the club membership secretary:
(Including Club Development Plan)
This folder will contain a range of core club documents, to which members of the club and the committeee might need to refer.
The initial document is the Club Development Plan 2016-18, which was reviewed by the committee in January 2017. If you have comments, please contact Alan Simpson, Club Development Officer.
The Club AGM on Sunday 18th September provided the opportunity for the Chairman to present the annual club awards to a number of very deserving recipients!
Please see details below of the Devon Orienteering Club AGM on 18th Sept at Fire Beacon Cottage, Nr Sidmouth, along with the new Devon OC constitution (accepted at the AGM).
The Club secretary () maintains a file of risk assessments from recent events so that future organisers may adapt the assessment for their needs. In addition, by making the assessments routinely available the club is demonstrating good, safe, practice. Some selected examples are given below for information.
Please note that the risk assessment should contain a clear link to the Club Missing Person Procedure - see Haldon June 2018 as an example.
This document describes how DOC will maintain records of Event Risk Assessments, reportable Accidents and other Accidents and Incidents which require a first aid response.
Would you like to attend?
The club appreciates members volunteering to help put on events but unfortunately, for insurance purposes, all officials at orienteering events need to have completed an Event Safety Course by 1 January 2017. By ‘Officials’ the British Orienteering Federation means Organisers, Planners and Controllers.
Fifth League Table 2015-16
Devon League 2015-16 (After 5 Events)
The league has been updated following the recent Wheathill event on 10th April. As a result the leading positions have changed on three out of the six courses, showing how tight the competition is. Many congratulations to Tom Perry, M12 who cannot be caught on the Orange course (although note that certificates are awarded for first male and first female on each course.)
The final League event of the season is at Braunton Burrows on Sunday 19th June - an opportunity to run on some great orienteering terrain. Make sure you have the date in your calendar! See: Events
