Portugal Orienteering Meeting

Escape to the sun....

The prospect of running in warm Portugal this February was too tempting for your Secretary - event report

British Schools’ Championships

Forest of Dean 19th November 2017

Well done to Torquay Boys' Grammar school runners who excelled at the British Schools' Championships in the Forest of Dean on 19th November. Despite a lack of girl runners they were placed 3rd overall equalling last year's results and dominated most of the boys' age groups as detailed below.

Southern Championships

Successes at the November Classic!

The New Forest looking stunning in the sunshine. Highland Water provided a real technical challenge, and some very wet boggy bits! Congratulations to all the Devon members who competed - it was great to see Devon so well represented at the event. There were some strong performances by club members, and we were on the podium in several classes. We even had a clear sweep in the M18 class - well done lads!

Junior Inter-Regional Championships 2017

Strong Devon (and South-West) Performance!

See Harry McMurtrie's report below from the recent Junior Inter-Regional Championships 2017 (or JIRCs for short) plus photos, where the South West came a very creditable fourth.

The south west squad are in the fetching yellow flower power tops. The names for the podium photo are: Jim Bailey (M14 BOK), Eddie Narbett (M18 BOK) and Flurry Grierson (M16 Devon).

Stockholm: National Junior Elite Training Camp

Report from Harry McMurtrie

In May of this year, I was fortunate enough to be selected to attend a National Junior Elite training camp held in Stockholm in Sweden, along with 17 other M/W 16s and 17s. I’d competed in all but one of the major selection races during the season and had had some good results overall. The camp ran from the 8th – 20th August.

Compass Sport Cup Victory!

South-West Regional Heat

Congratulations to ALL the Devon orienteers who competed today - we convincingly beat Southampton Orienteers so will compete in the final at Virtuous Lady in October. It was great to see so many Club members enjoying their runs and chatting afterwards. Particular thanks to Steve P and team for putting up the shelters, Ruth C our captain for marshalling us so well, and Helen T for the refreshments and lovely cake. Results are up on the WIM website -link below.

November Classic and Southern Championships

There were some notable Devon successes at the Southern Champs on Sunday in the New Forest. The weather was cold but clear, and the forest fast but tricky in places. Well done to our Southern Champions Tom Perry (M12A, shown here with his trophy), Flurry Grierson (M14A) and Carol Pearce (W70A). Full results below - you can search these results by club as well as class.
Rob (a frustrated 2nd!)

Flurry in a hurry!

Devon Orienteering’s most recent member to join the ranks of England internationals, Flurry Grierson, turned in two stellar performances last week-end at the Junior Home International competition held in Northumberland.

Seven South-West Champions!

Caddihoe Chase 2016

Devon runners took seven of the titles for South-West Champion on Saturday, at the Caddihoe Chase event held in Dorset! Club members then went on to win three of the overall titles for the combined results over two days. Congratulations to all of the winners -and great to see a strong Devon turnout in superb weather.

‘Devon Juniors train with SWJOS’

Six juniors from Devon Orienteering Club were amongst 13 juniors selected from across the South West to attend the first South West Junior Orienteering Squad (SWJOS) training weekend of the season here in Devon and Cornwall.
