Devon Orienteering

Devon Juniors to the Fore

Six DEVON juniors were amongst 18 selected to represent the South West in the Junior Regional Orienteering Championships (JIRCs) held in the Peak District 29th – 30th September 2018.

Two days of competition (Day One – Individual, Day Two – Relay) saw DEVON runners podium twice (Tom Perry – M14 Champion and Flurry Grierson – M16 Runner Up) and challenge for a top three place in the Relays. Despite the traditional dominance of northern regions (Scotland, North West, Yorkshire and Humber) the South West gave the other regions a run for their money, finishing fifth overall. Well done to the DEVON juniors selected:

M14 – Tom Perry
M16 – Jack Forrest
M16 – Flurry Grierson
M18 – Reuben Vasey
M18 – Harry McMurtrie
W18 – Meg Somers

The South West Junior Orienteering Squad (SWJOS) exists to bridge the gap between club level and national level, helping talented junior orienteers develop through additional coaching, training and competition. It is run by volunteers, allowing junior orienteers to meet and mix with fellow juniors from other South West Orienteering Clubs, fostering friendships and giving juniors a chance to improve.
