Local level event

What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun6 App.

Directions / Parking

West of Burrator Arboretum.

Signposted from Norsworthy Bridge. Start is 400m from Norsworthy Bridge.

Parking is in public car parks at Norsworthy Bridge or the Arboretum to the south, otherwise by the side of the road that runs around the reservoir.

We will marshall this from Norsworthy Bridge, but please only park on one side of road or off road areas to allow other users a clear route. We have no control of parking, and will be sharing with the public. If it is a sunny day then space will quickly become tight. Please look to car share, or park further away and lift share or cycle.

Map / Terrain

This event’s map has been updated from previous editions to 1:7.500.

NB it is NOT georeferenced accurately. The centre is OK, but the further E & W you go the less it fits. THIS WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR NAVIGATION in the field, but GPS tracking on e.g. Routegadget will not be accurate.
Tracks and paths have been updated, though there may be extra mountain bike trails.
Vegetation has only been slightly updated. In the central area there are blocks of clearing with ‘log hedges’ best not entered. These have not been mapped accurately but have a non-IOF symbol of light yellow with horizontal green dashes to help you identify which path you are on. As this is an ongoing clearance scheme new areas may have appeared since February.
Knolls and rootstocks from the old map may or may not appear. Similarly new ones may not have been mapped.
Out of Bounds: The reservoir perimeter road and open moorland is OOB for competitors.
Use designated crossing points: All competitors must use designated gates which may be locked and require straddling.
