Many thanks to all the club members who have offered assistance over the two days. Here is the schedule of helpers, which I hope is now settled. It is an Excel spreadsheet with separate pages for Saturday and Sunday. If you want to check on any details, please contact me on 01364 654167 or
The terrain is a pine forest adjacent to Fernworthy reservoir. Being on Dartmoor there are individual boulders scattered through the forest which make good point features. Also the area is by no means flat, offering good route choice on longer legs. The area was last used In May 2014 for the Tamar Triple event. On that occasion a pair of nesting goshawks late on created an exclusion zone to the detriment of most courses. We are confident this won’t happen in September!
Archaeology
Stone rows, stone circles and cists (stone burial chests) abound on Dartmoor, as well as the more humble hut circles which were dwellings.
The stone circle in the photo is actually in Fernworthy forest and obvious on the orienteering map 700m west of the reservoir. The Dartmoor National Park requests outdoor clubs to avoid taking courses across these artifacts or using them as control sites. But the DNPA does encourage individual visitors to come and view these places. 3km to the west, outside the forest boundary, there are valuable burial remains which enthusiasts may seek out.
Fernworthy Map
The forest has now been completely remapped from a Lidar base in 2014/15, by Rod Postlethwaite, WRE, and Tom Lillicrap, DEVON.

Registration & Start Times
Day 1, Saturday, is the South-West Championship event (Level B).
On Day 2, chasing start times will be calculated from the Day 1 running times, with a base-time of 10.00. Age-class Caddihoe trophies will be awarded on the Sunday results.
There are no BOF ranking points on Day 2.
The afternoon start period on Saturday is chosen to enable more relaxed travel on Saturday morning. Start times from 12.00 to 15.00 will be pre-allocated on Day 1, to separate seeded competitors. There will be a back-up punching start.
