Organiser's and Planner's Comments
Thank you to everyone who turned up to enjoy this event. We think it went smoothly and apart from the odd controls with the wrong number the event provided a personal challenge for all levels of ability and an opportunity to run off Xmas excesses. Some people even managed to come up with equally valid songs but were not ok what we had linked to the picture clues. In the festive spirit we did of course allow the point. But please don't question our scoring (or should we say your self-scoring) as we had no appeal process.
We think the clubs' procedures for letting people know of cancelled events have been fully tested after cancelling twice due to strong winds, last year and this. The National Trust seem to have set the criteria of cancel if winds (and gusts) are 45 mph or more. Indeed Killerton Park had been closed to the general public in the Christmas week, at least in areas away from public footpaths, and there were signs of significant tree damage. But it would be good to have a back up plan with at least one person available and able to send out a mass e-mail to all club members in the lead-up to any event, and to recipients of the regional newsletter SINS. As it happened we had to spend a lot of time sending out many e-mails to a few recipients at a time to inform them of the change from Friday to Saturday for this event. Our Orange account eventually was frozen due to the unusual number of e-mails sent.
We would like to thank Denise and others of the National Trust for supporting the event. Thanks too for Roger Green's efforts as Controller and preparing the map and self-scoring reverse side of the map. Finally, thanks to the Griersons for helping put out the controls and Patrick Devine-Wright for collecting some afterwards.
