Devon Series
Virtual level event
What does this mean?
Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Virtual events are where there are no physical controls being used. Your presence at a control is registered using an App on your mobile phone, normally the free MapRun6 App.

Course Information
The course is a Score in that you have one hour from when you start to get to as many controls as you can. Each control you collect is worth 20 points but you lose 10 points for each minute or part minute over the one hour time limit so don’t be late back at the finish. The app records where you have been and the timing with the results being published automatically online
If you can’t make that day or time you can of course run it whenever you like but hopefully many will be able to get there. If you want to stay on afterwards the Swan Inn is very close with an outside option if the weather is suitable.
Very informal, open to all and suited to all levels and abilities but due to the Urban nature any runners aged under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
The maprun file to be opened on your smartphone app needs to be downloaded prior to starting and can be found under maprun 7 app select event / UK / Devon / Urban 2025 activities/Sidmouth .
Maprun : if you are not that familiar with the app and system then head to
https://www.devonorienteering....
which will point you in the right direction. The latest version is now maprun 7 which is what we recommend. Its actually a very easy system to use once it is downloaded and there will be someone on hand on the evening to guide you through the basics if needed.
