What does this mean?

Local events are usually low key and in the 'localised' area, ideal for newcomers to try the sport and Training events are non competitive and used for training and coaching, aimed at members of the club, but they can attract people from neighbouring clubs, and are often ideal for newcomers to try the sport. Regional events attract participants from around the local Region, National events are high quality competitions that will attract people from far away, Major events are Major Events such as a British Championships. Course Information

Who is it aimed at ? Nearly everybody is the answer. If you are quite new to Orienteering and need coaching we will have a group going through the basics. If more experienced and just need the practice we will have some exercises to get you thinking and no doubt there will be a group in the middle as well getting guidance.

From about age 10 most children can take part but we strongly encourage parents to have a go as well…… especially where the children are at the youngest end.

Safety Notes

Please be aware that Haldon forest Park is used for a wide range of activities – including in the upper parts of the first by many families out walking. Both formal and informal mountain bike trails also exist and runners should be aware of cyclists on these and on the main forest tracks.

What do you need to bring ? Yourself in sensible clothing , trainers ( or Trail shoes if you have them) plus a drinks bottle and a light snack which goes down well. If you have a compass and whistle bring them with you but we will have spares. If its going to rain a lightweight waterproof make sense. We will generally carry on whatever the weather unless it is really poor.

Devon Orienteering Club thanks Haldon Forest Park for permission to hold this activity.
