Organisers' Comments
What a relief to get this event in the books, after it was washed out back in January on our first go-around. In stark contrast to the cancelled event, the 90 competitors this weekend were treated to some glorious sunshine in which to enjoy this fantastic area.
We have a small apology to make to anyone who was a little lost getting to the event - it looks like one of the grid references/postcodes for the event on the website was incorrect, and in reinstating the event, the link to the final details was also lost. We hope the extra roadsigns put out were suitable to get people back on track!
Thanks to Steve for planning excellent (if demanding!) courses and to Andy for controlling; and to Phil, Nicholas and others from the committee for sorting access, permissions and scheduling at short notice. As always, thanks to all of the volunteers, who managed everything from parking to SI on the day; we’d particularly like to shout out Jeff, Pete and Phil from QO who went way above and beyond to help collect controls - much appreciated!
And finally, thank you to everyone who entered and participated - you all helped make the event the success that it ultimately was!

Planner's Comments
As always we need to thank the landowners for giving us access to West Down and Virtuous Lady.. it's appreciated.
To be greeted on the day by blue skies and warm sunshine made such a difference compared to the monsoon like conditions on the original date. Many people stayed on for quite a time afterwards chatting and eating which is always a good sign.
Where course planning is concerned there are quite a few limitations on where we can go due to ecological / wildlife issues, areas of shooting and some rather steep ground and impassable cliffs thrown in for good measure. As a result the medium and longer courses are rather funneled along corridor's but there is great variety of terrain which pleasantly surprised many of those new to the area.
This final point thrown in with the almost springlike weather for many made up for the rather hilly terrain and most people were certainly feeling it after coming up the hill to the finish. It certainly is a "physical" area. The extra month also removed the last vestiges of bracken from many areas which made some controls a bit more open than originally planned although I suspect many were quite pleased at that stage.
The one course which was problematic to me was the short green. Although nearly all managed to complete a few found the slopes a bit too much which was always a concern of mine . The only other option would have been to keep up on the actual Down itself which wasn't a great option. It's a difficult one as always and I hope this didn't spoil people's day out.
