Judging by the event website photos, it was a wet and windy day. Well done to all who went and to Adrian for completing his course despite his injury!  His report below:

After qualifying at the heats in Bere Wood, Dorset in February Devon OC put together a small team to participate in the national team cup final on Holcombe Ranges, nr Ramsbottom, Lancashire on Oct 20th

The competition was stiff, with 9 teams from around the UK competing in the CS Cup (for larger clubs) and 9 teams for the CS Trophy (for smaller clubs). In the CSC 7 teams had 20-25 scorers, while Bristol OC (BOK) had 11, and Devon had only 8 scorers.

Harriet Keenan ran well in W18 and produced the best result of the day for Devon coming 23rd/44 competitors. Geoff and Barbara Keenan also just missed out on a top half finish on their courses. Well done too, to Phil Beale, Chris Vergo, and Helen Taylor for getting some points on the board in the wind and rain.

It was my first ‘run’ since the Caddihoe Day 1 at Braunton Sands when I tore a plantar fascia so I was just pleased to be able to walk around my course, until I slipped and broke a rib! But I did finish and get a few points. Spare a thought for Phil Hall who had some green transport plans lined up to get to the event which didn’t quite work out and he had lots of minutes added after a late start time but he did get some points. Eventually the rain stopped and I think everyone enjoyed the quality orienteering and being at the superbly organised event.

The next Compass Sport Cup heat is to be hosted by Quantocks OC on 23/2/2025, with the final (if we qualify) again a long way away in the Northeast next September.
