O Safe Image Taking and Use

Last updated: Fri 28 Jul 2023

At Devon's Committee meeting on 12.10.16 the club agreed to adopt the British Orienteering 2016 policy on "Safeguarding, Image Taking and the Use of Images". For a copy of the policy see below.

Juniors (Photography):

If, for any reason, as a parent or carer of a junior member of the club you do not want your child being photographed at club events, and therefore potentially appearing on Devon’s website or Facebook page, please inform the club membership secretary: email hidden; JavaScript is required

Background:

We consider the British Orienteering policy provides a sensible balance between the benefits and risks associated with the taking and use of images. We believe that the limited use of appropriate orienteering photographs of young people and adults on Devon’s website and Devon’s Facebook pages promotes the sport and encourages participation. In addition, please note that our standard practice is, in any case, not to name people who appear in photographs, unless there is some special reason and agreement to do so, such as a trophy winner. (Please see the website for examples of images used in recent years.)

In addition to adopting this policy Devon OC will:

“Devon OC has an agreed policy on the taking of photographs at events, based on national guidance. This provides a sensible balance between the benefits and risks associated with the taking and use of images. If you are unsure about acceptable practice, please speak to the event organiser. For a copy of the policy see ..."
